Volunteering at Finca Morgenbrise
Work, learn and experience nature
Finca Morgenbrise is a permaculture farm and nature reserve in the cloudforest of northwestern Ecuador. We welcome volunteers who want to experience life on the land and help us with the work that needs doing.
Depending on the season, weather and current needs, you can help out in different areas:
- caring for and looking after our animals
- in the permaculture beds
- maintaining and taking care of the farm
- practical work in the nature reserve
- other day-to-day tasks around the farm
Volunteering gives you the chance to experience daily life on an Ecuadorian farm up close, gain hands-on experience, and learn more about permaculture, animal husbandry and protecting the cloudforest.
What you should bring
Life and work on a farm is hands-on, close to nature, and at times physically demanding. What matters most is enjoying outdoor work, reliability, initiative and a respectful attitude toward people, animals and nature.
Prior experience isn't required. More important are interest, willingness to learn, and a readiness to pitch in with everyday tasks. The minimum age for volunteers is 18. Please bring sturdy footwear suitable for outdoor work.
Accommodation and meals
Simple accommodation on the farm is available for volunteers. Food and lodging are included; there are no costs for staying as a volunteer.
We speak German, English and Spanish on the farm. Couples and families are also very welcome.
Arrival and pickup
By prior arrangement, we can pick volunteers up from the airport in Quito. We'll work out the details with you well ahead of your arrival.
Duration and working hours
There's no minimum stay. A stay of a few weeks is ideal, though, so you have time to settle in, learn the routines and contribute meaningfully.
Typically you'll work around half a day per day. The rest of the time is yours. We agree on tasks and working hours together, depending on season, weather and current needs.
Free time and nature
In your free time you can explore the farm's special natural surroundings and the cloudforest. There's a beautiful river right on the property. The area also offers plenty of opportunities for birdwatching.
